Charleston Casa Medina

In 1538, when the city that is currently known as Bogotá was founded by Spanish conqueror Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada, he gave it the name of Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza (Our Lady of Hope). A year later it was changed to Santafé and finally, with the creation of the Republic in 1819, it was given its current name.

Bogotá has a privileged location within the Colombian territory, sitting on a high plateau in the middle of the country, 2640 meters above sea level. With a population of more than 7 million, Bogotá is divided into 20 localities that cover the totality of the city and have their own local mayor and administration board.

The average temperature is 14°C, but unpredictable changes in temperature are common throughout the day.

Bogotá is also divided into 4 major zones:

Central zone: Known as the "original" Bogotá, it houses the historical district of La Candelaria, as well as several financial and economic centers. Also, most governmental and administrative buildings are located in this sector of the city.

Northern zone: This is the area where most of the financial activity is concentrated and where most museums, churches and cultural buildings can be found. This is also where Hotel Casa Medina is located.

Southern zone: Construction and industrial sector of the city.

Western zone: Industrial sector that houses the biggest and most important parks and athletic compounds, as well as the El Dorado International Airport.

Included in the activities and attractions that both visitors and residents find captivating are the various musical festivals that Bogotá offers throughout the year, such as the Salsa, Jazz, Opera and Rock al Parque festivals.
